Cannabinol (CBN) might not be as well-known as THC or CBD (yet), but it’s gaining attention for its potential health benefits as a lot of the primary research results are very exciting.  CBN is actually a breakdown product of THC (i.e when THC breaks down it becomes CBN) and it is generally a cannabinoid which is associated with calm and deep sleep. However there is a lot of exciting research into a handful of other potential physiological benefits which is driving this lesser known cannabinoids’ increasing popularity.

Here’s a rundown of what CBN is being researched for and might be good for:

  • Helps with Sleep
    • CBN is often linked to sleepiness (aka the sleepy cannabinoid) and some of the first research studies suggest it could be really effective for helping people with sleep disorders, or simply to improve quality of sleep in general.

  • Eases Pain
    • Like many other cannabinoids, Cannabinol (CBN) seems to have pain-relieving properties

  • Fights Inflammation
    • Like CBD, CBN might help reduce inflammation.

  • Nerve Cell Protective Properties
    • Early research hints that CBN might protect nerve cells from damage.

  • Antibacterial Properties
      • CBN has shown strong antibacterial effects, especially against some tough-to-treat, antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

    • Potential Appetite Booster
      • As its precursor (THC) some studies are also suggesting that CBN might help increase appetite, which could be really helpful for people dealing with conditions

    In a wrap:

There is still a lot to explore and learn about cannabis in general. Cannabinol/ CBN is one of the dozens of exciting cannabinoids we are learning more about. Primary research has indicated that this cannabinoid has a lot of potential. As more studies take place, we will get a clearer  picture of how this lesser-known cannabinoid can be used in for physical and mental wellness.
